The Development of Marketing and the Marketing Process Derek A Johnson Herzing University Dr. Mark Ellis October 4, 2015 The Development of Marketing and the Marketing Process Having a well-planned out strategy created by your marketing team is essential to your organization’s success. IT will help you to achieve that goals that you set for the organization and help in attaining the profitability that every business person wants to achieve. But before we get into how marketing came about and how it evolved we have to understand what marketing is and what marketing has made marketing as we know it today. According to the American Marketing Association, marketing is â€Å"the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large (American Marketing Association, 2013, para. 1)† With that being said marketing really started to show up in the early 1900’s when people started to realize that there was a correlation between buying power and demand. In addition to the correlation it was realized that buying power and demand could be manipulated in favor of the seller with the help of advertising.
